Discovery Channel's double standard

Everyone waits patiently for that one week a year when we can finally indulge in horror stories of great whites swimming deep into rivers and attacking innocent “Little Johnny” who was just swimming around with his friends. We love counting down the most dangerous sharks or the deadliest beaches, but how factual and how responsible are these shows? As a kid, i loved Discovery Channel because they always played unbiased documentaries showing footage of nature at its best; raw and unaltered. But lately we see shows in Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” that portray shark’s as these horrible monsters we should be afraid of. This fuels people’s fear of sharks and it does no good to sharks themselves. The reason why there are loopholes in laws preventing shark finning is because people can’t get over their fear of sharks or the stereotype. Discovery Channel gained a reputation on being purely scientific but calling sharks “man eaters” is not scientific. It’s a double standard amd it’s irresponsible of Discovery Channel to alter these creature’s image for the sake of entertainment or ratings. I hope they realize the harm they’re doing to sharks and reconsider the way they express themselves about them.
